AEI releases YTD January 2014 statistics

AEI has released the data for commencements of student visa holders in January 2014.  Whilst the picture is incomplete for other sectors until February and March data is released and the data should be interpreted with caution, monthly data for ELICOS can be analysed on its own merits.

The strong growth trend for ELICOS that was experienced in 2013 continues into 2014 with January figures showing growth of +19%, producing a total of 10,137 commencements.  This growth represents 1,629 more commencing students than January 2013 and represents the best start to any year except the peak year of 2009.

Four of the top ten countries have experienced their best ELICOS YTD commencement figures ever: Colombia, Vietnam, Thailand and Spain.  Three regions also recorded their highest level of ELICOS YTD commencement figures ever: Americas, South East Asia and Southern & Eastern Europe.

China (+345), Vietnam (+298) and Thailand (+209) have contributed the largest numbers of additional ELICOS students.

The 1 January 2014 snapshot showed a head count of 29,915 student visa holders enrolled in ELICOS programs, 6,716 more students than on 1 January 2013.
