Research priorities

Research projects in the 2010 program explored topics within a range of broad areas of concern for ELICOS teachers and academic directors:

  • Monitoring and assessing student progress, achievement and proficiency
  • Teaching General English
  • Teaching pronunciation
  • Teaching academic literacy/EAP
  • Student motivation

Participants and projects

Six teachers were selected for the pilot program, exploring the following topics:

Jock Boyd Billy Blue College of English, NSW Use of electronic dictionaries
Coral Campbell Bradford College, SA Developing student listening and speaking skills in General Academic English programs
Sylvia Cher Deakin University English Language Institute, Vic Developing extensive reading skills at beginner level
Kathryn Koromilas AIPE, NSW The effect on student motivation of learning outcomes explicit
Laura McCrossan Milner International College, WA Maintaining student motivation in high-level General English classes
