English Australia to review Guide to Best Practice in Direct Entry Programs

Over the past few years English Australia has developed a set of Guides to Best Practice in different aspects of ELICOS to support its members in all areas of ELICOS operation. The Guides are compiled from member college contribution; prepared solely with English Australia resources; and are available only to staff of English Australia member colleges as a benefit of membership of English Australia. More information about the Guides can be found at www.englishaustralia.com.au/best-practice-guides: one-page summaries of current Guides are freely available from this website but member college staff must log in to access the full documents available at the bottom of the page.

English Australia is reviewing its Guide to Best Practice in English Language Programs with Direct Entry to High School, Vocational Training & Higher Education Study (Direct Entry Programs), first published in 2008, to incorporate contextual changes that have happened over the past few years. These include a move to discipline-specific programs; the development of the ‘English Language Standards for Higher Education’; and the introduction by DIAC of streamlined visa processing for universities and their nominated pathway providers.

A small Working Group will be established to identify and suggest content for specific areas for inclusion in the reviewed Guide. The Working Group will also provide feedback on drafts of the Guide before publication.

Details of the review of this important Guide and the role of the Working Group are available here.

Academic/program managers and senior teachers from English Australia member colleges interested in joining the Working Group are asked to contact the English Australia Professional Support & Development Officer, Katherine Brandon, at kathbrandon@englishaustralia.com.au by Thursday 20 December, outlining briefly how they can contribute to the project.
