ASQA Update

English Australia meeting with ASQA

Although meetings with ASQA staff have taken place previously, English Australia has its first formal meeting with ASQA last week – the first of what will be regular quarterly meetings with senior ASQA staff to discuss ELICOS sector specific issues and ensure that there is a forum for us to keep ELICOS front-of-mind with ASQA.

ASQA has acknowledged that they have lacked a specific focus on ELICOS providers and this first meeting provided the opportunity for us to discuss recent and planned initiatives to remedy this.  Senior ASQA staff were in attendance, including the Chief Commission as well as the Commissioner for Risk and the Commissioner for Compliance.

In response to previous discussions between English Australia and ASQA, the ASQA website now has a dedicated page for ELICOS & Foundation Studies:

http://www.asqa.gov.au/for-training-organisations/elicos-and-foundation-programs.html

In addition to this, in the near future, ASQA have committed to establishing a team of staff who will be dedicated to CRICOS and ELICOS responsibilities.  The 1300 hotline will be amended to include one for those calling about ELICOS matters and one for those calling about CRICOS matters. As a result callers will be directed to someone with the appropriate level of knowledge and expertise.

They will continue to work on improving their website information and forms – English Australia has committed to review their forms and provide feedback where we believe improvement is needed.

Any member colleges experiencing issues with their CRICOS renewal process should contact the Secretariat. We welcome feedback regarding your experience with ASQA.

How to find your CRICOS renewal date

Do you know when your CRICOS registration is due for renewal?

ASQA is supposed to send a reminder letter to all CRICOS providers six months prior to the expiry date of their registration, however, it is your responsibility to submit  an application to renew your registration at least 90 days prior to the registration's expiry date.

Providers can locate this information in PRISMS.

Users from providers can see the provider registered ‘from’ and ‘to’ dates as well as course registered ‘from’ and ‘to’ dates.  You can access this information from the ‘Provider Information’ or ‘Course Information’ tab once you log in to PRISMS.

This tab will also give you your CRICOS Code, your status ie registered or suspended, and your capacity.

What will CRICOS registration cost you?

Whilst some of the transition arrangements in relation to registration costs make calculations somewhat complicated,  English Australia has developed a spreadsheet that will help you calculate what your annual costs will be over the five year period of CRICOS registration.

Contact the Secretariat for the spreadsheet – let us know if you experience any difficulties.

We hope you find this and other information useful – please let us know if you identify any other problems in your experience with ASQA – if we know, we can try to help!
