Latest ASQA Update

ASQA has released their latest (May) update.

Key things for member colleges to note are:

ELICOS and Foundation Program providers

In response to repeated calls from English Australia and a meeting with the Chief Commissioner of ASQA in recent weeks, ASQA has finally created a section of the ASQA website dedicated to ELICOS and Foundation Program – sectors that had both previously been ignored in ASQA’s information and communication. There’s not a lot on it but it is a start.........

Queensland transition information

Pending the passage of state referral legislation, registered training organisations (RTOs), ELICOS providers and Foundation Program providers in Queensland will make the transition to regulation with ASQA in 2012.   If state referral legislation has not yet passed on 1 July 2012, some Queensland RTOs and all Queensland ELICOS and Foundation Program providers will transition to regulation with ASQA on that date.

As the date of transition approaches, ASQA will directly contact each transitioning provider’s Chief Executive Officer (as listed on training.gov.au) with detailed information on the transition process.  Providers do not have to do anything to transfer to ASQA on the referral date.

ASQA Information sessions

The presentation given at recent ASQA Information sessions held around the country is now available from their website. Of particular interest is Slide 12 which states that 10% of the 1,038 applications for initial registration, renewal or change of scope were rejected in ASQA’s first 6 months of operations.  The presentation also includes useful information about how ASQA are determining provider risk ratings.

Financial Viability Risk Assessment

ASQA has released a new Fact Sheet on the requirement for providers to have a Financial Viability Risk Assessment. Assessments are generally required when an organisation seeks initial registration with ASQA, and at such other times as ASQA deems necessary (for example, following a complaint or prior to ASQA agreeing to renew registration).

The Fact sheet—Financial Viability Risk Assessment shows specific measures used by ASQA to assess applicants' financial viability.
