Interest in the English Australia Action Research in ELICOS Program, supported by Cambridge English Language Assessment, is growing year by year and places in this unique opportunity for high level professional development with international authority on action research, Anne Burns, are becoming increasingly competitive.
This year English Australia received 19 expressions of interest from 26 teachers supported by a wide range of colleges in almost all Australian states and territories.
With generous funding from Cambridge English Language Assessment eleven teachers will take part in the program this year, working on six projects exploring an aspect of teaching, learning and assessing speaking, an area of key concern to academic staff in English Australia member colleges.

Luke Alexander & Wendy Onslow-Mato, Macquarie University English Language Centre (NSW) – Designing tasks for critical reading with EAP students Narelle Clarke, English Language Centre, University of New England (NSW) – Exploring the use of technology for teaching and learning EAP reading skills Irene Fernandez & Louise McRoberts, Swinburne College (VIC) – Exploring the benefits of reading aloud Caroline Keogh & John Smith, Griffith English Language Institute (QLD) – Using technology to teach extensive reading Marlon Schoep & Eileen Wood, Curtin English (WA) – Developing motivation in extensive reading Jade Sleeman & Kerry Ryan, Latrobe Melbourne (VIC) - Developing an interactive approach to encourage students to become more critical readers
Projects will be complete by the end of August, and outcomes will be shared at the English Australia Conference in Perth in September, with further national and international presentations and publications to follow.
