Government decision to increase the Working Holiday Visa fee

Member colleges may have read in the media this week that the government will be increasing the application fee for a working holiday visa by 25% from $280 to $350 from 1 January 2013.

Member colleges are encouraged to sign an online petition urging the government to change this decision.

Why is this important?

22% of international English language students in Australia hold a working holiday visa - it is an important segment of our market.

Australia's student visa is already the most expensive in the world - this increase would give the working holiday visa the same status.

Australia is already struggling to be competitive on price when compared with other key competitor destinations such as Canada (where a WH visa only costs $150) - this will only make us more expensive and provide a further disincentive to potential students considering their options.
