DRAFT PLAN AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT
The NSW Government is developing Industry Action Plans to position key sectors of the State's economy for strong growth, resilience, improved innovation and productivity, global competitiveness, and new investment opportunities over the next decade.
The Government has established Industry Taskforces to develop the Industry Action Plans. Industry Action Plans are being developed for the following key sectors: • Manufacturing – with a focus on processed food and beverage manufacturing; metal manufacturing; and machinery and equipment manufacturing including biomedical and medical devices, renewable energy technology, and defence equipment. • Professional Services - focused on finance and insurance; legal and regulatory services; and engineering services. • The Digital Economy - focused on digital content and applications; information services and analytics; and smart networks and intelligent technologies. • Tourism and Events – with a focus on developing a tourism and events strategy to double tourism expenditure to NSW by 2020. • International Education & Research – focused on education exports, innovation in education delivery, and developing and enhancing NSW’s international education, research and industry precincts.
The Government has established Industry Taskforces to develop the Industry Action Plans, with English Australia Executive Director, Sue Blundell, representing the ELICOS sector on the Education Taskforce.
The Taskforce has developed draft recommendations to address the substance of what NSW has to offer international students as well as how NSW can better market and promote our offerings. In particular the recommendations address those key factors which influence international students’ decisions to study in NSW: the quality of teaching and research, the reputation of our teaching and research institutions and the quality of the international student experience in NSW.
