The Queensland and Victoria branches of English Australia have organised presentations for some of the teachers involved in this year’s Action Research in ELICOS Program. Tuesday 6 November, 4.30 – 5.30 pm: Megan Yucel and Vicki Bos, ICTE_UQ, the University of Queensland, St Lucia Friday 16 November, 2.30 – 4 pm: Damien Herlihy & Zeke Pottage, Swinburne College, Hawthorn Click here to access details of the presentations, which will be a great opportunity not only to hear about the research undertaken but to find out about how to get involved in the Action Research in ELICOS program. Both presentations are free but please RSVP the branch to ensure you have a seat and a cup of tea. We now have more than 40 members in the English Australia Learning Technologies online community. The community is open to all staff at English Australia member colleges who are interested in learning more or sharing their knowledge about learning technologies, and all you need is an institutional email address to get permission to join. You can be actively involved in discussions or just watch and learn. Current discussions include the best/simplest blogs to use and how to best engage teachers with technology. Thanks to community manager Lauren Brumfield for this excellent initiative. English Australia is also supporting #AusELT, which was set up as a Twitter chat group. There is now a blog with summaries of the chats – to date, tips and techniques for motivating students; experiences with technology in the classroom; and integrating Australian content into courses – and a popular and active Facebook page. All teachers are most welcome to visit/participate in any/all of these. The next #AusELT Twitter chat will be on 22 November, and you’ll soon be able to vote on what you’d like to ‘discuss’ – in 140 characters. |

The Australian Human Rights Commission has developed a number of resources to support its National Anti-Racism Strategy. ELICOS teachers may find useful material to adapt for their classes, and perhaps take the opportunity to support students in dealing with racism when they encounter it. Please go to http://itstopswithme.humanrights.gov.au/ for full details and information.
